On The Wall at Palace Capitola…

This month, we are proud to feature Tom Bottoms.

    Tom Bottoms met impressionist painter Bernard Lennon, in the 1950s in Connecticut and would often accompany the artist on painting expeditions. During their lifelong friendship, they had many discussions on art and philosophy and Lennon introduced Tom to the writings of Charles Hawthorne on painting.

It was not until 1968 when he was in Chile, that Tom began to paint, with artist Sergio Montero as his teacher. Lennon, Montero, and renowned Pakistani artist, Gulgee, inspired Tom as he traveled the world, painting in makeshift studios set up in his small rooms aboard ships at sea.

Along with still life and landscapes, Tom has become known for his European oil paintings, in particular those of Venice, Paris, and Montpellier. He has exhibited in solo shows in California and several group shows in Connecticut. His paintings are in private collections in New York, Connecticut, Florida and California.
